The technology field is largely dominated by men. The statistics get even worse when you narrow down to investigate FOSS projects. However this trend is slowly changing with more ladies stepping up and participating in FOSS related initiatives. An interesting blog entry that I came across shows the daring act of one such lady. See here: http://lilithlela.cyberguerrilla.org/?p=1636
Some femalecentric groups that have been established to promote technology among ladies include Linuxchix (http://www.linuxchix.org/ ) which mostly focuses on FOSS and another more generalized grouping who go by the name of AkiraChix (http://akirachix.com/).
FOSS provides numerous opportunities for people to play a role in the FOSS community, from being an active user to a code contributor. The offering is very rich and diverse. So ladies, do learn more about FOSS and seek where you can plug into the FOSS world and bring more equality to the world ;-)
